Copy me
When I hear a song on the radio or read about an album in a magazine, it sometimes make me want it. To do that without breaking any laws I have to either buy a CD or buy it as MP3-files on iTunes or something similar.
Now, I happen to be a person who do not like having too much stuff around and I tend to either give or throw away things I don't need. Also, since I don't have a record player I'll simply rip the CD as MP3's and stow it away in a box where I keep all my useless stuff until I move.
If I instead choose to buy the song as an MP3 right away I get it cheaper and quicker, but instead I get a bunch of restrictions. I've actually bought a couple of songs online but since I moved them over to my external drive I had to reactivate them through Apple which was a bit of a hassle.
However, if I instead choose to illegaly download the songs, I won't have to stowe something away in a drawer and I won't have to worry about restrictions. Even without the obvious advantage of not having to pay for it it's still a better deal.
This makes absolutely no sense to me. I understand how the music industry has worked earlier, but to me it seems ridiculous to criminalize a huge part of the population because of a few companies hungry for more money.
I create music, write stories, blogs and lyrics, I draw, paint and do photography, I create websites and work with graphic design. I would defenitely say that I'm within the creative fields, and I say use my stuff! Listen to it, read it, print it out or give it to friends; as long as you don't make any money from it I'm happy if it can make other people happy.
We need to seriously have a look at the way copyright works today, because if it does not work with the society it's the laws that has to be changed, not the society.
