I love Stephen Colbert

Yes I admit I'm in love with a man. His name is Stephen Colbert, and he's as far as I can see the only person in the world (or at least the US and that seems to be what counts these days) that has the guts to actually stand up against President Dubya while he's in the same room.
I'm refering to an occasion that has been widely, broadly and probably even thickly reported on in the US press; his 24 minute speech at the Annual White House Correspondence dinner. For those of you who don't know, Colbert is an actor featured in Comedy Central's The Daily Show playing a fictional character with the same name. This character is an obnoxious, short-sighted conservative (not completely unlike Bill O'Reilly) who since october 2005 has his own show called "The Colbert Report".
When they signed him on as a guest speaker at the correspondence dinner, they probably just expected him to pull some shallow internal jokes about press coverage, after all the president was there. Instead he used his character as a voice to highlight if you will, all the absurdities that the president and his government are putting the rest of the world through.
This was received by the media with mixed reactions, mainly depending on their political orientation. However when video footage from the dinner leaked out on film-clip sites such as YouTube, iFilm and Google Video it was immensely popular.
Here are some samples:
“But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in 'reality.' And reality has a well-known liberal bias.”Now, can you blame me for publicly showing my affection for him? Unfortunately he has a wife already so I guess I'll just have to settle for mistress. Apparently he was also an avid Dungeons&Dragons player in high school. Perhaps I can be some kind of midget side-kick in his monthly treasure hunts in his basement.
"Very interesting and challenging interview. You can ask him anything, but he's going to say what he wants, at the pace that he wants. It's like boxing a glacier. Enjoy that metaphor, by the way, because your grandchildren will have no idea what a glacier is."
One can only dream.
(The whole dinner-thing was covered by C-Span and the video clip can be found here. Also keep an eye out for the movie Strangers With Candy where supposedly Colbert has a key role).
